In April this year, Lianhe Wanbao reported that 28 year-old Liu Yong Li, a counsellor, found seven pearls in three oysters he extracted from Lower Seletar Reservoir in Yishun. The report has lured the public to the reservoir with many hoping to find these oysters. Mr Liu said he is willing to organise tours to the area where he found the pearl-producing oysters.
On 25 June, during a visit to the reservoir, Mr Liu said he found five more oyster shells. Three of the shells were empty, while two of them had pearls under rotting oyster meat. He found the pearls after washing off the decaying meat. Full story
