Singapore aims to be a "strategic hub" for Qatar LNG exports

Qatar and Singapore have explored various “synergistic opportunities” in recent years resulting in surge in bilateral trade and development, according to Doha Bank Group CEO R Seetharaman.
Highlighting that Qatar is Singapore‘s 21st largest trading partner with total trade at S$9.8bn, he said bilateral trade has increased by more than 26% during 2010-12 mainly on account on increase in exports by Qatar. Full story

Another "HUB" on the plan

Singapore is looking to position itself as the global intellectual property (IP) hub in Asia, and has instituted a series of initiatives as part of its 10-year master plan to turn its plan into a reality.
According to a press release on the Ministry of Law's Web site Monday, the government has accepted the recommendations made by the IP Steering Committee which called for Singapore to be a hub for IP transactions and management, quality IP filings, and IP dispute resolution. Full story

Gillman Barracks occupies a sprawling 6.4 hectare suburban site, located in lush green surroundings just a 10-minute walk from the nearest subway station, which used to house a British military battalion during Singapore's colonial days. This new arts district features several detached, brick buildings of various sizes with high ceilings interspersed with restaurants and bars. Extensively refurbished to the tune of some SG$10 million (¥634 million) by Singapore's Jurong Town Corporation, with joint support from the city-state's National Art Council (NAC) and Economic Development Board (EDB), Gillman Barracks is seen by many as the latest in a string of government-funded initiatives to reinvent Singapore as an Asian hub and market for contemporary art. SINGAPORE: Singapore has long courted international banks and companies in its drive to become a financial hub but it is also wooing a very different sector: non-profit groups including campaign charities.
Singapore has attracted more than 130 "international non-profit organisations" such as the charities Mercy Relief and World Vision International, and the International Air Transport Association, an aviation lobby group. Full story
