Heng Swee Keat admits Lee Kuan Yew's birthday photo was photoshopped to mask the mysterious "glare" on the background

Education Minister Heng Swee Keat has responded to online queires about the “strange” photo of MR Lee Kuan Yew’s 91st birthday which he first uploaded this week.
The photo, pictured above, showed Mr Lee Kuan Yew and several of his close staf members celebrating his birthday but netizens were confused as to why the background was pitch black and there were lighter ‘halos’ around the people gathered around Mr Lee.
Many netizens had speculated that the photo was photoshopped and questioned why such a thing was necessary.
In response, Mr Heng explained that the strange photo was indeed digitally altered.
"This was a personal photograph taken with a simple camera. The photograph had some glare in the background. An amateur adjustment was made to remove the glare,” he explained. Link

Two musicals to be staged to honour Lee Kuan Yew

wo separate musicals about former prime minister Lee Kuan Yew are in the works and are expected to be staged next year, in time for Singapore's 50th anniversary.
For one of them, new Singapore theatre company Metropolitan Productions has roped in several well-known local arts talents to form the backbone of the musical's creative team.
Cultural Medallion recipient and composer Dick Lee will write the music, while novelist Meira Chand and theatre practitioner Tony Petito, founder of the Singapore Repertory Theatre, will work on the storyline and script. Full story

Lee Kuan Yew hospitalized during Chinese New Year holiday

Lee, 90, was admitted to Singapore General Hospital on Sunday with fever and a bad cough, and is currently on antibiotics, according to the e-mailed statement today. He will miss a Chinese New Year dinner in his constituency scheduled for this evening, according to the statement.
“He has been advised by his doctors to avoid public appearances,” according to the statement.
The father of current Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong was hospitalized for two days in February 2013 for a condition with stroke-like symptoms linked to a prolonged irregular heartbeat. He was hospitalized in September 2010 for a chest infection and had a pacemaker implanted in 2008 after suffering from an irregular heartbeat. Full story

Lee of course would love Barisan Nasional to go on controlling Malaysia so that Singapore can surge ahead in terms of economic prosperity. As long as BN is in power, Malaysia cannot hope to catch up with Singapore. Therefore Lee is certainly a great fan of BN.

He has “not turned out to be so brilliant”.
That’s what former prime minister Lee Kuan Yew said about Workers’ Party (WP) Member of Parliament Chen Show Mao.
This line can be found in his latest book, One Man’s View Of The World.
Mr Lee said in his book that Mr Chen disappointed in Parliament despite having stellar credentials.
In an e-mail reply to The New Paper, Mr Chen said he hasn’t read the book, adding that it is “after all, but one man’s view”. Link

Lee Kuan Yew immortalised with bronze bust at Singapore University of Technology and Design

The Singapore University of Technology and Design is now home to a bronze bust of former Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew.
It is a gift from the Lyon-Singapore Association and the Municipality of Lyon.
The sculpture, weighing about 80 kilogrammes, was unveiled at the Lee Kuan Yew Centre for Innovative Cities in the Singapore University of Technology and Design on Tuesday.

SINGAPORE: Singapore's founding father Lee Kuan Yew, who will turn 90 next month, said in a new book that he feels weaker by the day and wants death "to come as quickly and painlessly as possible."
"Some time back, I had an Advanced Medical Directive (AMD) done which says that if I have to be fed by a tube, and it is unlikely that I would ever be able to recover and walk about, my doctors are to remove the tube and allow me to make a quick exit," he wrote in the book "One Man's View of the World" published Tuesday.
"There is an end to everything and I want mine to come as quickly and painlessly as possible, not with me incapacitated, half in coma in bed and with a tube going into my nostrils and down to my stomach," he wrote. Full story

Lee Kuan Yew receives honorary degree from NUS

The National University of Singapore conferred a honorary degree of doctor of laws on former Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew on Tuesday.
Singapore's President Tony Tan Keng Yam, who is also chancellor of the university, presided over the ceremony at the Istana. Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and other members of the Lee family as well as cabinet ministers attended the ceremony.

He made the remarks at a fireside chat organized by Standard Chartered Bank here, along with Paul Volcker, 85, former chairman of the US Federal Reserve (1979-1987).
