173 people trapped on Singapore observation wheel

SINGAPORE (AP) — More than 170 people were trapped Tuesday on the world's tallest observation wheel after fire damaged the wheel's control room, a television station reported.

Rescue workers scrambled to get passengers to the ground but only five people had made it to safety from the 165-meter (541-foot) wheel, known as the Singapore Flyer, by late Tuesday, Channel NewsAsia reported.
