SINGAPORE (AFP) — An alleged Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) militant who escaped from a Singapore detention centre four days ago is still in the country, the government said Sunday.
An island-wide manhunt is underway for Mas Selamat bin Kastari, the alleged JI leader in the city-state who escaped last Wednesday after he was allowed to use the toilet during a visit from his relatives.
"Our security agencies assess that Mas Selamat is still in Singapore. No evidence to suggest he has fled the country," Deputy Prime Minister and Home Affairs Minister Wong Kan Seng said.
