Can the President speak up?

Law Minister K Shanmugam clarified at a forum yesterday that everything the President does or says in public, can only be on the advice of the Cabinet.
According to a report in The New Paper, if the President chooses to go against the government, he can be booted out of office.
Several presidential hopefuls have been expressing their desire to be another conduit between the people and the government. Some even said they would do so publicly. Full story
