Commentary: Dear PM Lee,

For the past few days, you have made several promises to Singaporeans amid a growing anger against the ruling party. Yesterday, you stressed that improving the lives of Singaporeans is your top priority. [link] It is heartening to note that you have made particular reference to "Singaporeans", whereas in the past, it was always "residents" (PRs included). In the next few weeks or months, we will know whether is it just talk only or are you actually putting your commitments into action. If you are doing the latter, then there are 2 actions that I hope to see being taken:
1. It is not enough to apologize for your ministers' mistakes; you must take firm action against them. You should be prepared to even demote or remove cabinet ministers who fall short of expectation. This is what Singaporeans wanted - accountability in your government.
2. Please show Singaporeans how we have actually benefited from the influx of foreign workers. [link] We want to see the hard statistics for citizens over the past three years, and not a report on "residents" as what the manpower ministry have been reporting in the past. We are more interested to know how we, the citizens, fare over the last 3 years in the employment market. If Singaporeans truly benefit from influx of foreign workers (including PRs) as what your government has been asserting, then show us the report and stop obfuscating the numbers with the inclusion of PRs. This is also want Singaporeans wanted - transparency from your government.
