TAIPEI, Taiwan — Former President Chen Shui-bian was criticized as a “gambler” for promoting Taiwan independence as a distraction to his corruption scandals by former Singapore Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew, according to a U.S. embassy cable released by the website WikiLeaks.
In a cable classified as confidential on Oct. 19, 2007 (according to WikiLeaks), the U.S. Embassy in Singapore paraphrased Lee's opinions on Burmese leaders, Chen and the rising China.
