Buying back Thaicom from Temasek is for security reason: deputy PM

Thailand's government wants to buy back satellite operator Thaicom Public Company Limited from Singapore's Temasek Holdings is for national security, Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban said Tuesday.
"The government is not trying to hunt somebody down and Thaicom does not belong to ousted former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, since it has already been sold to Temasek," Suthep, who is in charge of security affairs, was quoted as saying by the Bangkok Post's website.
The satellite problem emerged when the anti-government United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) used the satellite to broadcast its misleading information via the "red-shirt" People Channel TV (PTV), Suthep said. Full Story
