More than 600 Filipinos, composed of 455 women and 189 children, are set to be deported from Saudi Arabia amid the “Saudization” scheme that is being implemented in the oil-rich kingdom.
The said Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and their children are expected to be repatriated from Saudi Arabia in the next few days, Vice President Jejomar C. Binay said Wednesday.
Some 12,000 OFWs in Saudi Arabia are reportedly affected by the “Saudization” policy or nitaqat, which encourages the employment of Saudi nationals in private firms.
The Saudi government has started its crackdown against illegal workers after the expiration of the Nov. 3 deadline for all migrants to legalize their stay. Full story
