TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Taiwanese exporters of agricultural goods were informed yesterday that the July Taiwan Food Fair has been canceled by Singapore, citing the recent food scandals as the primary reason for cancellation, a Council of Agriculture (COA) official said yesterday.
Participating exporters expressed disappointment, as the event has always been an excellent opportunity for brand exposure and acquiring new customers, the COA said.
The recent food scandals instilled a widespread fear in Taiwanese consumers, which appears to have spread overseas to Singapore. Many Taiwanese firms received requests to defer the exportation of their products to Singapore, as importers expressed concern over food contamination issues uncovered earlier this month, according to the COA.
