Fire at Newton MRT station, North-South line service disruption affects thousands of commuters going to work on Wed morning

A fire has broken out at Newton MRT station and SCDF has dispatched several fire engines to the scene.
The incident has caused an hour-long disruption along the North-South line with commuters Yahoo! Singapore spoke to reporting 10-minute delays at each station. Trains are also bypassing Newton MRT from both directions.
Commuter Victor Tan, who was on a train heading towards the North at around 850 am said the train he was on was stuck at Newton MRT for several minutes before an announcement was made that it would be delayed. Full story
