Tensions escalate as protestors tried to burn Chinese flag at China's consulate in Philippines

MANILA, Philippines (AP) — Police stopped an activist from burning a Chinese flag at a protest outside China's consulate amid the two countries' monthlong standoff in the South China Sea.
The government, meanwhile, distanced itself from Friday's protest but presidential spokeswoman Abigail Valte said freedom of expression is enshrined in the constitution.
Tensions have risen since both countries deployed vessels to claim sovereignty over a tiny uninhabited shoal called Panatag by the Philippines and Huangyan Island by China. Full story
