Indonesia Customs Foils Timber Smuggling to Singapore

Customs authorities in Jakarta foiled smuggling attempt of ebony and other rare timber known in high class furniture market as Java Palisander. Authorities said on Friday (4/6) the timbers were shipped from Makassar South Sulawesi to Singapore.
Head of Tanjung Priok Customs Office, Rahmat Subagio said authorities found 15 cubic meters of ebony logs and 16 cubic meters of sawed ebony bars, and 30 cubic meters of Java palisander logs and 2.5 cubic meters in bars, registered as paper.
Rahmat estimated the timber value at Rp40 million per cubic meter, and potential state losses saved by the catch was put at Rp2.5 billion. Link
