BRUNEI’S 21st Century National Education System (SPN21) has garnered praises from a visiting Singaporean senior government official, who expressed her confidence in the new education system.
“SPN21 is a very bold and visionary plan. I am very confident after interacting with my colleagues (Brunei education officials) that there is a determination to put in resources and train the people required to realise this plan,” said Singapore’s Permanent Secretary of Education Tan Ching Yee.
Tan explained that she will usually visit Brunei once every one or two years to observe and learn from the developments of the Sultanate’s education system. “We love to visit each other because we want to keep checking what are the good things we are doing, the good ideas and some of the common challenges that we might face…for us to come and see what we can learn from you and share what we are thinking ourselves because there seems to be many areas where we have common interests, whether it is literacy, numeracy, 21st century skills or wanting good people to become teachers,” she said.
