Singapore and the European Union will begin talks on a free trade agreement beginning next week, officials said.
EU Trade Commissioner Karel De Gucht, who met with Singapore trade officials Wednesday, said the trade pact would help further European engagement in Southeast Asia.
Singapore is the EU's 15th largest trading partner and bilateral trade was worth more than 55 billion euros ($75 billion) in 2008. Link
