Singapore earlier this month advised its people to defer non-essential travel to Australia's state of Victoria, because of the-then rapid spread of swine flu.
Now, Singapore health authorities are planning for a worst-case scenario, including closing schools. Health Minister Khaw Boon Wan says school closures will be on a case-by-case basis. Singapore has over 200 cases of H1N1, and only a third of parents questioned by a local radio station were in favour of extending school holidays, and keeping children away for another week. Others felt swine flu was not as urgent as the SARS respiratory disease outbreak in 2003.
