The Online Citizen’s extended coverage on the detainment of these 22 social activists contrasted strongly with the Straits Times’ brief mention of anything tangentially relevant to this episode — the 100 or so people who turned up at Hong Lim Park to remember the event, in a small column at the last page of the Home Section. (Thank God too, a sizable amount of people who always turn to the Sports section first — facing the end of the Home Section — may have chanced upon the article.)
Even so, the report in the Straits Times was laconic, diluted to an almost improvished and bland account that anyone reading it would probably pass it off at the very next second, completely unaware of the significance of the event more than two decades ago.
