Singapore March PMI up, but manufacturing contracts

SINGAPORE, April 2 (Reuters) - Singapore's purchasing managers' index, a leading indicator for manufacturing, edged up in March from the previous month, but the overall index shows the industry continued to contract for the seventh consecutive month.
The Singapore Institute of Purchasing & Materials Management said on Thursday its purchasing managers' index stood at 47.1 in March, from 45.0 in February.
A reading below 50 points indicates that the manufacturing sector is contracting.
