Nearly Quarter of Singapore Firms Cut Employees: Survey

A recent survey showed that nearly a quarter of companies in Singapore have undertaken layoffs in February, local media reported on Tuesday.
According to local radio 938live, the Compensation Watch Survey, which polled 50 organizations by human resource consultancy Hewitt Associates, also showed that some 70 percent of organizations have implemented control measures on compensation costs, including salary freeze.
As a response to the economic downturn, 8 percent of organizations have implemented temporary shutdown, and 14 percent have implemented mandatory leave to control working hours.
