SINGAPORE, April 5 (Xinhua) -- Singapore's unemployment rate for the first quarter of 2009 is likely to be higher than the fourth quarter of 2008, the country's Manpower Minister Gan Kim Yong said on Sunday.
According to TV broadcaster Channelnewsasia, the minister said that Singapore must prepare for another few quarters of downturn, and it is important now to focus on managing the downturn and managing costs so that more jobs can be saved.
