SINGAPORE -- Singapore's total employment increased by 221,600 or 8.1 percent in 2008, lower than the increase of 234,900 or 9.4 percent in 2007, the country's Ministry of Manpower said on Monday.
The ministry said in a statement that the employment growth slowed significantly to 21,300 in the fourth quarter of 2008, less than half the gains of 55,700 in the third quarter of 2008 and 62, 500 in the fourth quarter of 2007.
