New F1 title rules could leave Singapore fans cold

SINGAPORE, March 21 — If you have not already spent a month's rent to get a ticket for Singapore's Formula One race in September, this may give you food for thought.
A change in the system of deciding the F1 champion driver, announced on Tuesday just 10 days before the new season begins in Melbourne, could mean that the race around your island becomes irrelevant to the driving ambition of the top men.
Singapore is the 14th Grand Prix out of 17 on the calendar. It is possible that by then, one man — say Felipe Massa, Lewis Hamilton, Fernando Alonso or Kimi Raikkonen — will have the 2009 title in the bag.
