During the recent CNY festive season, Singapore's health minister Khaw Boon Wan made a quiet and unannounced "visit" to a medical institution in Johor Bahru's Iskandar Development Zone, where he met a Singaporean who will soon build a 200-bed nursing home there.
A few days later, he talked about what he experienced in his trip in Singapore's parliament, and suggested that Singaporeans should consider sending their aged parents to nursing homes in JB, because "one month of expenses at a nursing home in Singapore is equivalent to about two and a half months at similar institutions across the Causeway. Moreover, JB is not too far away, and relative can visit the old people during weekends."
