Official: Singapore's economy enters sharp recession

INGAPORE, Jan. 19 (Xinhua) -- Singapore's economy has entered a recession and it is not likely to recover until the second half of 2009, a government official said on Monday.

Singapore's Trade and Industry Minister Lim Hng Kiang said in the Parliament that the global economic environment has deteriorated significantly since the middle of 2008, and the economic downturn has spread to all key sectors of Singapore's economy.
