Australian education union enquiring into John Tan's suspension

Singapore Democrats, 9 Nov 2008

When it was announced last week that Australian James Cook University's Singapore campus suspended SDP's John Tan from his teaching post, it touched off a little firestorm in JCU's hometown in northern Australia. The Australian Broadcasting Corporation's radio service did an interview with Mr Tan as well as Mr Peter Walley-Thomson, an official of the National Tertiary Education Union in Australia.

In his interview which follows Mr Tan's, Mr Walley-Thomson said that "a lot of nasty things have been said about James Cook University - about lack of integrity, about kangaroo academics, all sorts of things that we're very concerned, Townsville's and Cairns' employees are very concerned it's damaging the reputation of James Cook University."
