In my previous post “The Swede Temptation”, we looked at some of the incentives provided by the Swedish government as well as the French to boost the declining birth rates. We have waited in great anticipation for the sweetener by our government, which was revealed by PM Lee in the National Day Rally 2008.Whilst it pales compared to the generous incentives provided by our Scandinavian counterpart, it is indeed a right step forward, at least, to help address and alleviate some of the problems faced by young Singaporean couples these days. As a young parent myself, the measures announced are applaudable and welcome.
