Pilot trainees from the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) have commenced basic flying training on the new Pilatus PC-21 aircraft trainer at the RSAF Flying Training School (FTS) in Pearce, Australia.

The PC-21 is a state-of-the-art aircraft trainer with superior aerodynamic performance and advanced avionics. The PC-21 aircraft trainer allows RSAF pilot trainees to build a strong foundation in flying fundamentals, enabling the RSAF to better evaluate the performance of pilot trainees, such that they are more effectively channelled to various other platforms for subsequent training phases. As the PC-21 has jet-like handling characteristics and a cockpit environment similar to an advanced fighter aircraft, it also helps the RSAF identify those with fighter flying aptitude early, leading to a more robust and efficient pilot training system. This is in line with the RSAF's transformation towards a technologically advanced 3rd Generation Air Force.
