Timing crucial in Hapag-Lloyd sale

HAPAG-Lloyd could command a price double the amount AP Moller-Maersk paid for P&O Nedlloyd three years ago if the sale is timed well and catches the peak of the shipping cycle.

But as speculation intensifies about the future of Germany’s premier container shipping line, there is already talk that Hapag-Lloyd’s owner, Tui, has left it too late to obtain the best possible deal.

Neptune Orient Line’s cash-rich owner Temasek continues to be tipped by industry-watchers as the frontrunner to buy Hapag-Lloyd, which is being prepared for disposal.
