Singapore will be the first Asian country to host the summit of the Islamic Financial Services Board when it hosts the meeting next May.

On Thursday, the Monetary Authority of Singapore said the sixth annual summit would bring the single largest concentration of top financial regulators and senior bankers from IFSB countries to the city-state.

"Our hosting of the summit underscores our role as an international financial centre with a strong value proposition for Islamic financial services," said an MAS spokesman.

The Jordanian capital Amman is to host this year's gathering.

The IFSB, established in 2002, is an international standard-setting organization that promotes the stability of the Islamic financial system by issuing global banking, marketing and insurance standards.
