SINGAPORE, April 16 (Bernama) -- Singapore Wednesday sent a military tanker aircraft to the Gulf as its latest contribution in support of the multinational reconstruction efforts in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The Defence Ministry said the Republic of Singapore Air Force (SAF) tanker aircraft would conduct air-to-air refuelling missions in support of the coalition forces during the three-month deployment.

A sending-off ceremony for the 36-man KC-135 detachment by SAF Chief Maj-Gen Ng Chee Khern was held at Changi Air Base here, the ministry said in a statement Wednesday.

Since 2003, the SAF had made four deployments of KC-135 tanker aircraft, four deployments of Landing Ships Tank and one deployment of a C-130 transport aircraft to the Gulf.
