SINGAPORE -- Singapore has plenty of rice and there is no need to hoard it, a senior government official was quoted as saying on Friday.
Experts have warned that soaring global rice prices are hurting the region's poor, leading to fears of shortages and the specter of unrest.
But Singaporeans need not worry, senior minister of state for trade and industry, S. Iswaran, was quoted as saying in The Straits Times.
"Buy what you need," he reportedly said at a warehouse which stores part of Singapore's three-month rice stockpile.
