JOHOR BARU: The tight security at the Singapore checkpoint after the Feb 27 escape of accused terrorist Mas Selamat Kastari has discouraged many Singaporeans from travelling into the city. Holidaymakers are being put off by the intensive checks conducted by the Singaporean authorities, which has resulted in massive traffic congestion heading into Johor, said C. Jaya, 40, who works with the monetary authority of Singapore.

“Travellers are reluctant to go through the long queues,” she said, adding that she has seen many of them giving up and turning back home instead.
