Jetstar Asia and Tiger Airways launch Singapore-Kuala Lumpur service

Jetstar Asia and Tiger Airways commenced their maiden Singapore-Kuala Lumpur services on 01-Feb-08, both utilising A320 equipment with a 180-seat configuration. Both LCCs will operate the route with daily frequency.

Dato' Seri Bashir Ahmad, Managing Director of Malaysia Airports stated: “This route contributed about 10% of the overall passengers handled by KLIA in 2007 and the figure is set to grow further…Passengers will benefit greatly in terms of connectivity and flying options as apart from Jetstar Asia, Tiger Airways and AirAsia have both introduced flights plying the same route starting today. Currently, Singapore - Kuala Lumpur route is also operated by Malaysia Airlines and Singapore Airlines.

Ms Chong Phit Lian, Jetstar Asia CEO said, "Jetstar Asia is excited about the commencement of its flight between Singapore and Kuala Lumpur. This is an important event as it marks the start of available of lower fare options to fly between Singapore and Malaysia cities. We are confident that our product will be appreciated by the travelling public between the cities. We are also happy to play a part in bringing the linkages of the two closely knitted cities even closer."

Jetstar Asia’s Kuala Lumpur-Singapore service will be operated from the main terminals of KLIA and Changi Airport. Meanwhile, Tiger Airways became the second fully foreign-owned LCC to utilise Kuala Lumpur’s Low Cost Carrier Terminal, since its opened in Mar-06. Tiger Airways has chosen the LCCT as the basic terminal facilities and amenities are in line with Tiger Airways' streamlined operations model.

With the inclusion of Tiger Airways and Jet tar Asia, KLIA's list of international airlines stands at 57.
