The founding pastor of Singapore’s City Harvest Church, who is facing charges of misappropriating charitable organization funds, plans to contest the allegations with the help of some of the city-state’s most senior attorneys, which means the trial against the high-profile church’s former leaders could be a protracted and expensive one.
The accused are represented by some of Singapore’s most prominent lawyers, including Edwin Tong, a member of parliament with the ruling People’s Action Party and a partner at law firm Allen & Gledhill. Mr. Tong represents Mr. Kong Hee. The other accused are represented by “senior counsels” from various firms, a title conferred to only 41 lawyers in the city-state, according to the Law Society of Singapore. Full story
