Transport Minister Lui Tuck Yew says there will be no more more taxis in the Certificate of Entitlement (COE) bidding process from next month onwards.
Taxis will pay for COEs based on the prevailing quota premium for Category A under the vehicle quota system instead. They are presently only allowed to be registered using Category A COEs, which is for cars 1,600cc and below.
However, COEs used for taxi fleet expansion will be taken from the Open Category, which can be used for any vehicles but is mainly for bigger cars. Full story
