Filipino maid takes HK abode fight to top court

HONG KONG (AP) — A Filipino domestic helper is taking her fight for permanent residency in Hong Kong to its top court after judges gave her permission to appeal the rejection of her application.
Lawyer Mark Daly said Friday that Evangeline Banao Vallejos is being allowed to appeal the decision the lower court made in March.
It upheld Hong Kong’s denial of permanent residency for foreign domestic helpers. Other foreign residents can apply to settle permanently in the southern Chinese city after living here at least seven years. Full story
