STB's Sherina Chan wants more Pinoy designers in Singapore

THE LION City has noted the potential of the Philippines’ fashion industry and is calling on more Filipino fashion practitioners to take part in its yearly Asia Fashion Exchange (AFX).
Sherina Chan, Singapore tourism board area director for Philippines and Brunei, explained that “the [AFX] is a holistic platform which encompasses and supports four vital sectors of development in the fashion industry -- trade, via Blueprint; talent development, via Star Creation; business conferencing, via the Fashion Summit; and consumer, via the Fashion Festival.”
She noted that last year only six designers from the Philippines took part in the Star Creation, out of the more than 250 entries, compared to Thailand which had 55; South Korea, 50; and Vietnam, 50.
Ms. Chan expressed her disappointment over the small number. She said that after being based in the country for over a year, she has noted the talent, quality and creativity of the Philippines’ growing fashion industry.
