The Bombay High Court on Friday rejected an application filed by Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MP Supriya Sule, urging it to dismiss an election petition that claimed that Sule is not an Indian citizen as she had acquired the citizenship of Singapore.
The petition, filed by Mrinalini Kakade, had urged the court to declare Sule a non-Indian citizen as she had purchased property in Singapore and attained citizenship of the country, thereby nullifying Sule’s election. Kakade, who also contested the Lok Sabha elections from Baramati in 2009, was defeated by Sule. Full story
