An Oamaru couple asked police to arrest an alleged fraudster as he attempted to leave New Zealand on a one-way first class ticket to Singapore.
The trial of James Lindon Graham, who is alleged to have defrauded North Otago investors of $1.7 million, continued before Judge Brian Callaghan in the Timaru District Court yesterday.
The Crown alleges that between July 2005 and November 2009 the 68-year-old obtained money from several North Otago investors, mostly elderly, claiming he needed upfront sums to release funds he held as the illegitimate son of a former Indonesian president. He said he had between US$50m and US$100m held in gold bullion in a Swiss account. Full story
