Singapore: Romanian diplomat denies manslaughter

A Romanian diplomat charged with manslaughter following a hit-and-run crash in Singapore last year strongly denied all responsibility on the first day of his trial Wednesday in Bucharest. “Ninety percent of what is in the indictment has nothing to do with reality,” Silviu Ionescu told the judges.
The former charge d’affaires in Singapore who has been in detention since May asked to be provisionally released pending the end of his trial, which was adjourned to November 17.
The diplomat is alleged to have hit three pedestrians in December while driving a car belonging to the Romanian mission. Full story
