Mainland Chinese immigrants are ramping up their presence in Singapore’s Chinatown, bringing with them new food, new business and a new way of life.
This is a result of the increasing presence of the mainland Chinese immigrants. According to the Singapore Census 2010, they now make up 8.8 percent of the total population, a rise from 6.6 percent in 2000. And many have set up in the Kreta Ayer area running businesses from textiles and antiques to body massages and foot reflexology, and a storm of authentic Chinese food outlets. Full story
