I FIRST heard this famous line about Singapore’s political trinity from a Catholic priest back in the late 80s. In Singapore, it’s “the father, son and holy Goh”.Hearing it for the first time, I thought it was a superb one liner. The person who coined it must be quite a fella. Whichever way it was intended and meant to be interpreted, it had nailed it. I remember we all had a good chuckle over it that evening.That is perhaps one of the most famous quotes a foreigner could ever refer to when talking about Singapore and its unique political system — truly one of a kind in Asia, if not in the world.
