A FORMER St Andrews woman whose son died defending the family’s Mullers Rd home on Black Saturday will lead a class action against a power company accused of causing the Kilmore East fire.Carol Mathews is the lead litigant in a class action launched by lawyers Maurice Blackburn against SPI Electricity, the distribution operating company for SP AusNet.
Documents tendered to the Victorian Supreme Court allege the company failed to properly inspect and maintain its powerlines, leading to a break in a 43-year-old line which started a fire near Saunders Rd in Kilmore East. Full Story
