HONG KONG--Twenty years ago this week the West cheered the poignant sight of East Berliners joyously streaming through the gates of the Berlin Wall to once-forbidden freedom in the West.
The divide between Communist and Capitalist fell on November 9, 1989, when East Germans were allowed out and the Iron Curtain was yanked open. As Germans East and West -- even today's Chancellor, Angela Merkel -- filled the West Berlin streets drinking beer together to celebrate, Americans toasted the victory, the superiority, of democratic capitalism over repressive communism.
