NMP: Maintain status quo to make up numbers or provide real alternative views?

SINGAPORE – An irony among ironies took place with the rejection of Mr Siew Kum Hong’s application for second term as an NMP, and the revelation that five out of the nine new NMPs were admirers of Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew, a former secretary-general of the PAP.
Thus, the revelation that five out of the nine NMPs listed Lee as their favorite politician raised eyebrows. It is tempting to make this speculation – if one wants to apply for the role of an NMP, does he need to check “PAP minister” under his list of favorites (not meant literally) during his application?
