Veteran exec takes DBS reins in troubled times

SINGAPORE, Feb 8 (Reuters) - Koh Boon Hwee, one of the most powerful players in Singapore boardrooms, has been thrown the reins of DBS Group (DBSM.SI) after its chief executive was struck by cancer and as Southeast Asia's biggest bank faces bleaker times.

Many see Koh, the curly-haired 58-year old chairman, as very "hands on", which kept investors from panicking when DBS announced late last month that CEO Richard Stanley had leukaemia.
