Singapore snuffs out Malaysian smuggler’s bid

SINGAPORE: Singapore Customs snuffed out a Malaysian man’s attempt to smuggle contraband cigarettes into the republic at the Woodlands Checkpoint on Wednesday.

Seventy cartons of the contraband were found behind the rear seat backrest and inside a modified gas tank of a Malaysian-registered car at about 6am.

Customs duty and sales tax of the contraband amounted to S$5,400 (RM12,969).
