Goodyear's brief will be to grow Singapore giant

THE surprise appointment of former BHP Billiton chief executive Chip Goodyear to head Singapore investment giant Temasek is a bold move.

The appointment of the American is being closely watched around the region.

With assets of some $US134 billion ($200 billion), Temasek holds stakes in many of Singapore's major companies, including those with an active participation in Australia such as Singapore Airways, SingTel (which controls Optus), property group CapitaLand (which has a controlling stake in AustraLand), Singapore Power (which bought Perth based utility Alinta in 2007 with Babcock & Brown, and controls SP AusNet, Victoria's largest energy utility).
