A PHOTO-CATALYTIC SELF-CLEANING COATING has been licensed to Haruna, a Singaporean supplier of specialist paints and building chemicals, by Singapore's A*STAR Agency for Science, Technology and Research.
The coating contains nano-sized titanium dioxide (TiO2) particles which, when exposed to the UV component of sunlight, catalyses the oxidisation and decomposition of organic dirt and microbes on the paint surface. The paint is also hydrophilic, so that any moisture such as rain or dew that comes into contact with it forms an even layer of water, allowing the decomposed dirt to be washed away with ease.
